NEW YORK, Dec. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Columbia Records has released Barbra Streisand’s The Music…The Mem’ries…the Magic! album today, December 8th. Fans can purchase the new album HERE. On November 22, Netflix premiered Barbra: The Music…The Mem’ries…the Magic! The special was filmed on the last stop of the iconic superstar’s 13-city 2016 tour, showcasing a career-crowning array of legendary songs also featured on the eagerly anticipated album.
The album is available in two versions (track listings below): A single disc, 19-song album of memorable concert highlights, and a Deluxe 2 disc set featuring the entire concert performance. Streisand takes us behind-the- scenes while recording her recent #1 album: ENCORE Movie Partners Sing Broadway. (Barbra is the only recording artist in history to achieve a # 1 Album in six consecutive decades.) Available in 4CD boxset and digital configurations, Miles Davis & John Coltrane – The Final Tour: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 6 brings together, for the first time in an authorized edition with state-of-the-art production, five mythic concert performances as heard by lucky audiences during the epochal Spring 1960 Jazz At The Philharmonic European Tour.
Showcasing the musical chemistry shared by Miles and Trane, The Final Tour: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 6 offers five of the best recorded shows from that pivotal 1960 tour (Coltrane’s last as sideman): two shows from Paris’s L’Olympia Theater on Monday, March 21; two shows from the next night at Stockholm’s Konserthuset; and one from Copenhagen’s Tivolis Koncertsal three days later, on March 24.
The box set was produced by the multi-Grammy winning team of producers Steve Berkowitz, Michael Cuscuna and Richard Seidel. And mastered by multi-Grammy winning Sony Music engineer Mark Wilder. The set is authorized for official release by the Miles Davis Estate, the John Coltrane Estate, and Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings.
Miles Davis and John Coltrane were each implementing their own jazz revolutions at the time these recordings were made and the electrifying sonic frisson produced by the sometimes-competing/sometimes-intertwining musical visions of the artists perplexed contemporary jazz fans–many of whom were just getting acquainted with the recently-released and now iconic Kind of Blue.
“Much happened on that 1960 tour onstage and off, including powerful, emotionally charged performances in which one can hear the swinging, divergent energy of a band, and the unfiltered reactions of the European audiences: the crowd responses are indeed an inherent part of these historic performances,” writes Grammy Award®-winning music historian Ashley Kahn in his in-depth revelatory liner notes penned especially for this collection. “The common judgement on this music is that it represents a great jazz ensemble audibly straining to hold itself together…An equally convincing interpretation of the 1960 situation is that Miles and his quintet were redefining what a great band could sound like, and how much music it could contain—at one time, in one concert, even in one tune. It’s not that the bandmembers were so much apart, but rather that each were more themselves within the same unit—that divergence could co-exist and make music together.”
The repertoire performed in this collection is a veritable Miles Davis “Greatest Hits” including ” ‘Round Midnight”, “Bye Bye Blackbird”, “On Green Dolphin Street”, “Walkin’ “, “All Of You” and “Oleo”, all of which he had made his own and had been performing for some time. As well as more recent additions to the repertoire which were composed by Davis – “So What” and “All Blues” — both from Kind Of Blue.
The Final Tour is essential listening, an invitation to travel through time to experience the enduring beauty and magic of Miles and Trane at the peak of their collective powers. The ensemble includes Miles Davis (trumpet), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Jimmy Cobb (drums), all of whom had been performing together since the Kind Of Blue album.
The Final Tour closes with a rare contemporaneous audio interview with John Coltrane (conducted by Swedish deejay Carl-Erik Lindgren). “Do you feel angry?,” asks Lindgren. “No, I don’t,” says Coltrane. “I was talking to a fellow the other day, and I told him, the reason I play so many sounds, maybe it sounds angry, I’m trying so many things at one time. I haven’t sorted them out.”
Originally broadcast on European radio in March 1960, these concert recordings have been long sought after and prized by collectors and are now officially available at last as the latest installment in Columbia/Legacy’s acclaimed Miles Davis Bootleg Series.

New York, NY – August 25, 2015 – Sony Music Entertainment today announced it has acquired the Century group of labels, one of the world’s largest independents.
A global leader in rock, prog rock, heavy metal, alternative, post punk and hardcore, Century, led by founder Robert Kampf, is home to artists such as Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, Queensryche, Kansas, Devin Townsend, Steve Hackett, and Stitched Up Heart.
Under the agreement, Kampf will serve as CEO of the Century Group and oversee its worldwide operations. Sony Music will distribute releases from Century’s labels – Century Media, Another Century, InsideOut, Superball, and People Like You – via RED Distribution in the U.S. and Sony Music International around the world.
Financial terms were not disclosed.

For music fans across the world, Fridays are set to become the day for newly-released music.
July 10, 2015 will see the introduction of “New Music Fridays”, an aligned global release day for new music. The move, implemented by labels, retailers and artists internationally, means that fans in many countries will no longer have to wait for days to get access to newly-released tracks and albums.
Up until now, music has been released on different days of the week in various countries – from Mondays in markets such as France and the UK, through Tuesdays in the US and Canada and to Fridays in markets such as Australia and Germany. That will change on July 10 when new music will be released on Fridays at 12:01 AM local time around the world.
The move will mean fans can now get new music on the same day worldwide rather than having to wait for their own national release day. It puts an end to fans being unable to access music in their own country when it is legally available elsewhere, and the frustration that can cause.

“New Music Fridays” are an opportunity for artists and labels to maximise awareness of newly-released music. Whatever country they are in, fans will now know – Friday is not just the start of the weekend – it’s the day for new music. This can help create more excitement and a sense of occasion around the release of new albums and singles.

Switchover plan

New York – July 10, 2014 – Singer/songwriter Garth Brooks will release his first album of all-new material in more than a decade under a new agreement with Sony Music, it was announced today by Brooks and Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris at a press conference in Nashville.
Under the worldwide deal, Garth, who in 2000, was certified by the RIAA as the #1-selling solo artist in U. S. history, will put out a new solo album on or about Black Friday in November through his own Pearl imprint in conjunction with Sony Music’s RCA Nashville that will be listed as a Pearl/RCA Nashville release. Sony Music will provide distribution services and collaborate in marketing efforts, as RCA Nashville will promote singles at country radio. Additionally, for the first time ever, Garth catalogue music and as well as the new studio album will be available digitally, exclusively through his website at GarthBrooks.com, beginning with catalogue content in the next few weeks.
The worldwide entertainer, who has sold 134 million albums to date and has amassed virtually every music award possible, also confirmed his highly-anticipated world tour, with the first city scheduled to be announced on July 15.
