20 New Performances Unveiled on Celine Dion’s YouTube Channel Today
Today, in celebration of the United Nations’ International Day of Sign Language, new video content is being released as part of the I AM: CELINE DION (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on Celine Dion’s YouTube channel. Developed in collaboration with Sony Music Canada and the documentary’s director, Irene Taylor, the original content features ASL performing artist Angela “AV” Vilavong interpreting the film’s 20-song soundtrack.
Designed to create a new experience for both deaf and hearing people around the world, the videos directly interpret the lyrics of Dion’s music and composer Redi Hasa’s instrumental score into ASL – with inflections of LSQ, the sign language used by members of the Francophone communities of Canada). The project delivers energetic and emotional expression to the soundtrack and builds on Taylor’s commitment to bring accessibility for deaf, heard of hearing, blind and low-vision audiences to film.
Quote from Celine Dion:
“I’m so touched to have this special chance to share these incredible videos with you. It means the world to me to find new ways for us to connect with each other, in a way that’s open and inclusive. My hope is that these videos shine a light on the beauty of creating music for everyone, and that they fill your heart with joy, love, and a rhythm that brings us all closer together.”
Quote from Irene Taylor:
“It is truly my dream to create an entire soundtrack in sign language. I grew up using ASL in my family and from a young age I learned music goes beyond sound. I hope the world can experience the music of Redi Hasa and Celine Dion in a new way, with AV Vilavong’s precious artistry.”
